Faye Wong (王菲) (born August 8, 1969) is a Chinese singer, songwriter and actress. An immensely popular icon, she is often referred to in Chinese as a ''diva''.
Originally from Beijing, Wong started her singing career in Hong Kong, rising to fame in the early 1990s, and in 2000 was awarded as the ''Best Selling Canto-Pop Female'' by Guinness World Records. Her albums have reached #1 in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, as well as #14 in Japan which is extremely rare for Chinese-language albums. She sings in both Mandarin and Cantonese, and has also released occasional songs in English -- such as the ''Final Fantasy VIII'' theme "Eyes on Me" -- and Japanese.
She also has a few notable acting stints, most memorably in ''Chungking Express'' -- a role that won her "Best Actress" award at the 1994 Stockholm International Film Festival -- and ''2046'', although she is modest about her acting ability. In 2006, she and her husband Li Yapeng founded the charity Smile Angel Foundation.
