Fleet Foxes is a Seattle-based folk band signed to the Sub Pop and Bella Union record labels. The band was founded by Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset who both attended Lake Washington High School in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland. The pair caught the attention of Seattle producer and Pecknold family friend, Phil Ek, who helped them record their first demo in 2006, the self-released “Fleet Foxes” EP.
The band came to prominence in 2008 with the release of their second EP, “Sun Giant,” and their debut full length album “Fleet Foxes.” The album peaked at #11 on the U.K. Albums chart, eventually peaking at #3. In the United States it peaked at #36 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Soon after the album’s release songwriters Christian Wargo and J. Tillman joined Fleet Foxes on guitars and drums respectively.
In 2011 the band released their second album, “Helplessness Blues,” which was preceded by the release of the lead single and title track. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart.
Former Blood Brothers and Past Lives multi-instrumentalist Morgan Henderson has officially become a member of the band.
